Extra flights between UK and India

An agreement with the British and Indian authorities will result in extra flights between the two countries starting autumn, 2005.

Virgin Atlantic is hoping to increase its services from Mumbai, India. Richard Branson hopes that Virgin Atlantic will be given rights to fly a daily service to Mumbai from this winter. Currently the airline runs 1 daily flight from Delhi and three from Mumbai. Under a new agreement the two countries will increase the total number of flights from 40 to 130 a week.

A new Civil aviation agreement has also been made between US and Indian carriers.
The “open skies” agreement replaced a 50-year-old treaty that limited flights between the two countries
The situation at present means that the majority of airlines flying between India and the United States stopover in Europe. The new agreement means travellers will soon be able fly direct from New York to New Delhi.
