How the situation may affect your travel plans:
There has been an outbreak of the mosquito-spread virus known as Chikungunya across the Caribbean islands, including Barbados, St Lucia and the Grenadines.
What is Chikungunya?
Chikungunya is a rare virus spread by mosquitos and results in fever, joint and muscle pain, headaches, nausea and rashes. It's rarely fatal and is considered less dangerous than its cousin, Dengue Fever. There is, however, no cure or vaccination for Chikungunya and treatment of the disease is focused on easing the symptoms.
It's rare to get the disease, particularly if you are staying in a resort, as these are fumigated regularly. However, some holiday companies may have concerns and withdraw your holiday for your safety, in which case our standard terms and conditions apply for cancellations and amendments to your booking.
