About the Balearic Islands
The most popular tourist destinations on the Balearic Islands are Majorca (Mallorca), Minorca Ibiza and Formentera. the Islands have been favourite destinations for the British, Germans and other North Europeans since the beginnings of mass tourism.
Formentera is the smallest of the inhabited Balearics, with a population of 7,461. Formentera does not have an airport and the easiest way to get there is by ferry from Ibiza. During the Summer there are regular flights from many British airports to Ibiza.
Ibiza is practically synonymous with clubbing. Major cities are Ibiza Town, Santa Eulària des Riu and San Antonio. Eivissa is the official Catalan name but the name used by Spanish speakers and the rest of the world is Ibiza. Ibiza is a beautiful island and has lots to offer families. Including excellent beaches and lots of water sports activities. Other resorts include Es Cana and Playa d'en Bossa.
Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, and the one offering the visitor the greatest variety, from the sights, nightlife and shopping possibilities of the bustling city of Palma to the Sierra de Tramuntana. Well known resorts include Palma Nova, Magaluf, Cala D'or, Santa Ponsa and Alcudia, though there are many smaller, beautiful resorts throughout the island.
Minorca or Menorca is the most exclusive of the Balearics and perhaps the least known. The traditional Minorcan way of life has not been swept away by mass tourism. With over 100 beaches and excellent weather Menorca is the ideal place to get away from it all. Popular resorts include Punta Prima, Binibeca, Cala'n Porter, Santo Thomas, Cala Galdana and Cala n Bosc.
